ROAD TO PERDITION

The sun dips
another day dies out
leaving me here..still alive
bereft of the very foundation
of my being
i flounder between worlds
the known road to paradise
leads there no more
the signposts to a new world
all confuse and confound
on the road to nowhere
i am accosted by
the weirdest souls
angels with clip-on wings
devils with invisible halos
and hearts of gold

2006-2007
Unmasked the devils stand
agendas exposed
self-confessed crimes
expose a splintered core
the pain that drives them
to prey and pray
The angels clothed in innocence
still manage to get away
donning their wings
as they pretend
another act of grace.
Doess confession dilute the sin
lessen the pain?
does camouflage make
them less guilty
the ones that maintain
a spick and span face?
where does this road go
the path they trod
the likes of you... dear deep blues
is this the road to perdition
the one we walked
feigning those angelic
smiles from within
quoting the scriptures
even as you broke
the tenth commandment?
