Forgotten friend

friends......
old friends
new friends
some say......
friends are
but
books alike
old books
new books

old books......
thoroughly
been explored
lost the interest
dumped into darkness
thrown to some corners

new books......
touched often
interest grows
so much to learn
so much to explore

an old book
am I
dumped into darkness
thrown to some corners

thought comes
once in a while
a few chapters
flipped a while
back again into darkness
back again to the corners

an old book
am I
am hurt
I cry
in the heart
I die.

A year after the Tsunamis...

The seas had plunged their monstrous hands
of ghastly death o’er peaceful shores,
and smothered lives of innocent men,
women and children by the scores:
By walls of giant waves so quick
that leapt higher than all palm-trees;
and took with it their possessions;
and left behind a salty land,
unfit for growing crops or grass;
A stench of corpses, carcasses;
Destroyed buildings; huts; tenements;
Inundating miles of coastal
Villages, towns, beaches, groves.
Oh, what a ruthless nature’s act!
Afilled by fear belies the minds
and hearts grief-torn beyond repair;
The few survivors eke a life
of despair, shock, desolation;
A flurry of questions flashes
through minds wounded and horror-struck:
Why did God allow these tragic things?
Why has Nature turned so cruel to man?
Is man to blame in part or whole?
Was it an act of Satan then?
Why hell unleashed upon the earth?
A year has passed off now after
Tsunamis caused death, destruction;
Those horrible moments are etched
indelibly in minds of those
who escaped death by luck/ providence;
Life is turning to normalcy
but the sad memories linger;
The lives of near and dear ones who
were swallowed by the seas forev’r;
The fishermen use boats unhappily;
Fear fills their minds, their eyes by tears;
The sea is littered by mere junk;
The wounds of heart will heal slowly;
The world renews its prayerful pleas
to God to calm the treacherous seas;
Man cannot win the wars against
Mother Nature’s intense furies;
Align must man with her in harmony;
God must be less unkind with rod;
God’s love for man must more prevail;
Man must obey God’s tenets without fail;
May the earthly stay be less cruel;
God, this is our fervent prayer-
Plea for a peaceful life on earth;
O Jesus Lord, Rebuke the waves
and calm the seas on stormy days;
Guide man’s destiny on the earth;
When Satan tries to spread chaos,
What can poor man do all alone?
God’s the answer to man’s travail.

Springtime

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Dreams...
Autumn leaves scattered by the wind
Swirled and blown away
By gusts of reality.
Red and yellow and brown
Dried up...withering
They carpet the lanes of memory
Crunching when I pass through them.
But even through the winter
Of hopes, I silently await
The arrival of a spring

To blossom the vibrant flowers
On the tree of my heart.

truth

a moment of truth
envisaged by sages of yore
belongs to all man of grit
who pulverize desires like powder
and gain insight into the unknown
only to be known to them
that truth is nowhere in the peripheral of life
but within each man.

Redeemer

His was a
warrior’s
shield
firmament
of unifying
love. Him,
the Christ
the world hails.
our burdens our sins unforgiven
by mortals
ordinary He bears them. on the cross He was nailed
by hypocrites of yonder, unknown them to His loving
power. in pain yet He forgave them the ignoramus.
in God,
He trust
His might.
this pure
Son of God
the Saviour
is glorified
again
the day
He was born.
Merry Christmas.

.......but a shadow

me is but a shadow
impermanent yet immanent
nature’s son
given for a purpose
on earth.

breathing free
the air of life
I roam the earth
in search of a treasure rare
hidden somewhere in time.

a shadow I am
eagerly anticipates
my mergence
with the source
the light
the cause of my existence.

I am blocked in illusion
by the deluding maya;
am made to struggle to wiggle out
from the cocoon of worldliness;

I know one day
in the fullness of the divine grace
the curtain of maya will remove herself
and I the shadow will forever merge

with the cosmic fountain of love.

beauty

there is only pristine beauty
for the eyes to cast its look
ugliness is just perception error

for divinity encased beauty
permeates eternity.

eternity is unimaginable beauty.

Cyclonic Storms

Water, water everywhere:
Not a hut to live!
Many souls are dying fast-
Not a dole to give!
Pyres burn in burial grounds,
With scarce wood that’s wet;
Sadness fills survivors’ hearts:
None can console them!

Rain had washed mud-huts galore,
In low-lying plains;
People perched on roofs ‘like birds’,
Rain-soaked, sleepless, starved!
Roads and bridges water-logged:
Vehicles cannot ply;
The luckier ones have been rescued,
Sheltered in some schools.

Oh, what a rainy down-pour God!
These states had never seen;
Dams, lakes, rivers full to their brim:
Could burst anytime!
And what a human tragedy,
Furious Nature brought!
People have lost everything-
The little they possessed.

Cyclone storms keep recurring:
Ruthlessly each year;
These are worse than Tsunamis-
Millions of lives at risk!
Could God be not more merciful?
The poor suffer the brunt;
Their future looks so bleak and sad;
Will world not open its eyes?

Yet, why such things are happening?
Are they man-made or God?
Man can but pray just fervently,
Beg God to spare His rod!

escapism??

running far, I tried hard
as far as I tried to run
I am still running close to everything
because my mind wouldn’t let me go,

in my mind my travel never halt a moment.

All tips

There are five fingers
all pink, bright and beautiful
Where did the thumb go?

a silent lady

she, a silent lady
silently she speaks to me
soothing words of utter silence
during my moments of conflicts;
she doesn’t move much
unless I decided that she should move somewhere
she is of dark complexion
short hair
and a figure
I care not to measure
because she always remains the same size and shape;
she doesn’t do cooking
she doesn’t complain about having no food
she never demand for her rights
nor complain of my right of having her around;
I have never seen her decorate her face
yet she remains the same beauty ever
without worrying of calories and wrinkles;
I massage her once a week with olive oil
so that her luster remains;
she doesn’t dress up independently
yet she doesn’t care much about dressing
I have to change her dress every now and then
and she has no qualm over what dress I choose for her,
I have to be sure that she is covered fully
so that she is not gnawed by the hot blooded rats!!!
because she is just a mannequin
occupying a space in my room.

eternity

beyond,
yet within the reach
lies eternity;
eternally ever
lies eternity.
beyond,
yet within each of us
lies eternity
ever eternal.

Kalai : Petals of Love !!

Petals of love !
Gazing at the petals of a little flower
shivering and waving in chill wind
I let my mind to rewind..
Blissed moments of love
Unwind my chambers of heart !
Ebbing waves of love
Makes me warm with your thoughts !
Chilly wind penetrates my skin
and makes me yearn within !
Perfumed night sets in
and together with the silver moon
I take this day as my boon !
lonesome
I came into this world
lonesome
is my world
lonesome
I may leave
in fear I live.
an island I was
waves of love - a family surrounds me.
yet loneliness leave me not
an island I again try to become
ship of friends traps me around.

lonesome
I am lonesome

solitary wanders spike me high
in loneliness drip of tears
fills the vacant chamber within
I know not why
lonesome I am
in loneliness I speak to many
yet I remain nonetheless the same
truly lonesome.

solitarily lonesome
at times a burden I carry
lonesomely solitary
at times a joy I marry,
fear not tears
tear not fears
neither fits the mould.

alone I travel in silent
circle of friends an imaginary line
circle of family an itinerary of life
a journey’s beginning starts
a travel’s end reaches
alone I came
in loneliness I shall leave.

Lil' Sparrow

Yesterday night a sparrow lil'
came and sat on my windowsill,
she listened carefully to all that my heart had to say
and now she comes and sings to you the story from the past till today ...

I want to become a doctor, mamma, she used to say,
na beta it's very tough her mamma tried to scare the thought away.
So what? I will try my best
and let God decide the rest.
The triggering factor was that her grandma wanted her to be a doctor,
someone important next to the creator.
When other gurls used to play other gurlie games she did not join the rest,
she used to hold a plastic stethoscope to her grandmas chest.
Take a deep breath grandma she used to say,
one day her grandma took a last deep breath and passed away.

She was not a brilliant student but she worked day and night,
her father wanted her to be computer engineer as he thought it was just right.
So she did engineering for two months or so but her heart was not in it,
finally things were too much and she decided it was time to quit.
She got admission in M.B.B.S. as per her wish,
her mamma said your marriage would be delayed if you did this.
She was not worried about getting married some day
because she was going to become a doctor one day...
But destiny had a lil different matter in store for her,
it came out in forefront in form of professor who tried to molest her.
From then on began the nightmare,
how much she was in pain no one was aware.

Finally she changed her college and continued the course,
but fate was not yet done with her of course!
Her second year was smooth till destiny decided to play its game,
she fell short of following some rules and regulations but it was not her to blame.
She did not know what to do and still she pays for the same,
waiting for the destiny to finish its game.

She has a step to take tomorrow
and she put all her faith in me, the lil sparrow.
She told me to carry her word to God and pray for her,
I told her not only me everyone will pray for her,
she is convinced but a lil worried still,
drop in a message and tell her, yes you will.

friendship

rare indeed a ship called friendship
in it many chooses to travel
dreaming in their awaken state
that only theirs is called friendship;
can bitter arguments be made a friendship?
can sweet agreements hold promises faithfully made?
will the soul remain untainted in a soiled relationship?
will mankind ever understand what friendship is?
friendship
void of expectations
or anticipations
too much of which
poisonous concoction it shall become
fruitless labour will the be the reward;
friendship
is a divine phenomena
a hidden attraction unveiled from the past
a choice many things they can make
nay, wrong they are;
for friends come from the past
from an unknown dimension
and here to stay and grow
so that our friendship may dissolve into divine
without expectations of any kinds;
as friends we shall remain in divine
till a day shall come in future
to reveal that friendship is
but a relationship made with HIS creation
and not to suit our temptations.

life…..life…..

life…..

traverse you my dear one

paths of multiple choice

lays bare ahead of you;

wise in your choice you walk right

vice in your life you thread wrongly

on razor’s edge you gamble your birth.

Injustice

judgement passed
perception covered;
blind judge
blinded again
by stories made
by rulers in hasty fear;
none considered for re-trial
human life goes once more
the gallow feels proud
once again a job well done
another man went down
for errors, none knows of;
this is judgement passed
to eradicate evidence;
under the blanket
the dirt being swept
again and again;

the world believes
the law is justified
with an eye for an eye;
the judge or the justice
none knows which is the beast.

Divine friendship

divine friendship......
what exactly it is?
found everywhere?
cannot be
see everyday?
cannot be
feel have known always
maybe

divine friendship......
what exactly it is?
divine impulse......?
yes, definitely is
express unconditional love
deep down from the heart

divine friendship......
what exactly it is?
divine love......?
yes, absolutely is
unconditional, real and lasting
investing the love
without compulsion
(specially dedicated to my divine friend)

POLICY MAKERS

brutal justice
blatant laws
of certain democratic dictators
sucks the blood
of poverty ridden masses.

justice blinded;
judges handcuffed;
laws veiled;
they lauds freedom for all
the poor always their wall
banged, hanged
poverty’s cry goes unheeded.

They, the canine hearted
hypocrites of modern politics;
policy makers of gnawing nature
cheap indeed their principles
they drink blood of poverty;
they breath air of profound thoughts
in reality thoughtless jackals
of dark forest they are.

Helpless soul

38 years ago
the adventure began
i rushed
i struggled
i won the battle
no doubt
i fought to enter
the darkest warm world
could see nothing
could hear nothing
became independent
was it a mistake?
was it a punishment?
i cried
no one heard
i begged
no one sympathised
waited impatiently
to see the light
beyond the darkest world
13th. Oct 1966
a new world
was it a promise?
was it a new hope?
no doubt
brightness everywhere
lights everywhere
could see everything
could hear everything
became independent
was it a mistake?
was it a punishment?
day by day
months after months
years gone by
i still explore the life
i experience the pain
i see torture everywhere
there is no promise
there is no hope
i cry
i beg
to be free again.

So Many ...

So many had been burnt at the stakes;
So many sent to gallows;
So many had been tortured too;
So many fed to lions.

So many had been poisoned to death;
So many had been shot or knifed;
So many suffered for truth’s sake;
So many got crucified.

Yet, all were sinners, human souls,
Except for Jesus Christ!

tears

million tears have I shed………

million tears have I shed
tears of pain
tears of hope
tears of vain
tears of separation.

yes, millions have rolled by

caressing my cheeks
irrespective of seasons and reasons.

in silence I am alone
wandering in my own thoughts
diversifying yet mystifying thoughts;
wonderful yet painful.

I relinquish the fear
fear of pain
fear of hopelessness
fear of crippling agonies
fear of unwanted temptations.

But I have failed.

I relinquish the ‘fear’
that fears to be relinquished.
and in fear I continue to wallow
ceaselessly
carelessly.

I run from many things
………things that I can’t exist without
………things that I can’t think without
………things that I can’t perceive without.

I accept many things
………things that do not serve a purpose
………things that cripples me in thoughts and deeds
………things that cares not of anything.

why? why? why?
I ask….and the question remain.

and here I am……..

mother of mothers

mother
let me sing your glory
day in day out
as I breath in and out your breath.
let me render the beauty of your mysteries
which I will tell through multiple stories;

we step your body
yet we pretend as if nothing has ever happened to you;
we dig down your caverns
yet we fail to see your grace;
we pollute your breath
yet we keep on saying the ozone layer is thinning;
we do most things against positivity
yet we believe we are always positive.

oh mother nature
wither goes mankind
in hurries and worries
always carrying burdens unnecessary
trampling you along the way
yet you remain patient and silence and forgiving;
every seconds you hold us together
so that we may remain as mankind
though in layers we are polluted in multiples
you still care to allow us
roam freely over your body;

oh mother nature
wither goes mankind
half grown brutes we are
full of tainted diseases
jealousy, hatred, anger, revenge, greed and lust
have overgrown humanity itself;
the best we remove from your hold
the bad we throw into your hold
yet you remain forever in love with mankind.

i wonder, why?
tell me your stories
and take me along
mother nature.

Fated

30 minutes gone
waited in anxiety
60 minutes gone
started to worry
90 minutes gone
waited and waited
120 minutes gone
stranger appeared
"he wants to talk," my sister said
tounge completely tied
a long silence.............
eyes shied away
thank you mirror mirror on the wall
saw the stranger's reflection
gathered the courage
gained the confidence
uttered a few words
voice trembled
I mumbled
what............happened?
why.............late?
"caught in the traffic," he said
why..........you came?
"I like the question," he said
I smiled
I started to laugh
he laughed too
"wait a minute," he said
"I'm staying for lunch," he said
I was confused
didn't know what was in his mind
"I like her," he said to his mum
no invitation
no sign
no insistent
no dream
it just striked
"love at first sight," he said
first experience, new experience
"I feel the same," i said
13 years ago..........
arrange marriage
that's how it started
sweet memories forever.

Reality awaits

living in paradise
a human creation
world filled with materialism
desired beautiful figures
beautiful clothings
those are women today
desired speed cars
gigantic furnished apartments
those are men today
desired a virtual environment
everything worked by computers
those are young ones today
is this the real world?
is this where we want to live in?
where there is no love
there is no God
fame and fortune you gather on earth
is this a promise?
will take you else where?
heaven awaits you
share your riches with the poor
nothing is gained without pain
for there is no bread without work
God's grace you have talent
God's hand you have strength
share God's love you have peace
share your life
be a shining star
nothing beyond God
let there be hope
a hope for new changes
let there be prayers
for the end is visible.

the days gone by

the days gone by
in thorns scattered
i stepped ignorantly.

tears dropped, wetting my cheeks
reminiscing those days gone by
when i wished things could be set aright.

nature’s son was i
in her bosom i cried.

i prayed for the release
from bonds that clutched me.

i knew time will soon fly
leaving traces of youth behind.

too soon things went by
those moments i will never regain.

priority set
goals made.

studies ablaze
along….pain sets a gaze.

and the joy enjoyed as a small boy
lost in youth
but in man, am drawing it again
hopes dangle afar, but try
i shall try.

gone are the days......

Dawn....

Fading darkness yields
to a gentle break of dawn
that colours my day.

wife phobia

“Darling”, she murmurs into my ears
“Darling, Darling”, again she whispers into my eyes
“Here is your favourite coffee” she said.
I gracefully accepted with love.
she is my wife - a day old.

“Darling”, what shall I cook for your lunch?
“My lunch”?, I asked perplexed.
“Yes, Darling”, your lunch.
“What about your lunch, Dar…Dar…Darling?, I asked.
“I am eating outside, Darling”, she answered lovingly.
Huh…..she is my wife – a week old.

“Darling”, what shall I cook for your dinner?
“My dinner”?, I asked perplexed.
“Yes, Darling”, your dinner.
“What about your dinner, Dar…Dar…Darling?, I asked.
“I am eating outside, Darling”, she answered casually.
“My former boyfriend is gonna give me a treat”, she said loyally.
Huh…..she is my wife – a month old.

“Darling…ling..ling.....yunno what”, she asked.
I wondered what could it be.
“What is WHAT dear?”, I asked.
“You are the most handsome guy, I’ve ever married to”, she raised her voice.
“Uh..Uh…Ohhh….thank you, thank you”, I said.
“But, now the neighbour looks better than you”, she commented.
Huh…She is my wife – a year old.

Suddenly a pin drop silence
Pilharmonic Hall?
Nay!!

I retorted angrily, “then why don’t you go and marry him”
“I was married to him last year”, she said in a high pitch, low tone.
at that point the Hiroshima 1945 in me rises
for I could feel my cells pulsating heavily.

a loud ringing tone pained my ears.
I am awaken from the slumber.

Huh……..Thank God, I am still a bachelor.

End Is The Right Time To Begin

I was walking blindfolded
On the path, which I did not know led to where
I was all alone, falling down and getting up again
With no one to guide me or even to care
Walking a few steps and tumbling down hundred
So many tears for every tumble, were shed
Cuts and bruises all over, heart filled with pain
Every fall made me fear to pursue my goal once again

One day,
I came across a friend
Who knew about life more than I could even imagine
A friend who taught me that end was the right time to begin
So, I learnt to make things work,
When it seemed the most impossible thing to happen
And I realized miraculously that the trick worked for me
And things were starting to happen.

I learnt from her that day
Never should we lose hope even on the worst day
For when the wave is high enough,
It is then that it turns away
It is darkest few moments before the break of the day.

Arti D. Honrao

When the Sky opened its Flood-gates!

The sun appears to shine here once again!
The air is cold, and full of water-vapor;
The roads and streets have flood-waters neck-high;
The nights are dark and scary without lights.

Rain-water entered compounds of people;
Many have left to places of safety;
Others are housed in school-buildings for now;
People have lost belongings and houses.

At last, the depression has gone across;
The rain is drizzling still but not pouring;
The flood-waters need days to get absorbed;
Now, water-borne-diseases play havoc.

Villages, fields stay flooded by the scores,
And countless people have lost their poor huts;
With crops rotten and dead heads of cattle,
Their labor hard has gone to waste once more.

Their hearts can’t bear the losses brought by rain;
The banks of rivers, lakes and tanks have breached;
Some kith and kin were washed away by floods;
This strife appears to remind of world’s end!

Bridges and roads are cracked with crater-holes;
Some high-ways seem like water-ways anew;
All eyes can see just water as if lakes;
Snakes, crocodiles infest some areas.

Motor vehicles can’t ply on most roads;
Some wade perilously to safe places;
Some drenched in rain, have no dry clothes to change;
The week has gone without food, shelter, work!

Just water everywhere: unsafe to drink;
And some had spent sleepless nights on roof-tops;
Burglars and robbers have become active;
Chaos fills hearts and gloom covers some states.

The years of drought have changed into now flood;
God has been kind but many lives are lost;
Last year, the Tsunami struck horror fast;
This year, the sky is always over-cast.

Some cities have come to a grinding halt;
Lakhs of people seem shocked, weary and sad;
Such incidents were never seen before;
Their will to live is fading away fast.

But why is Nature so cruel these days?
And why does God allow such tragic things?
Is He displeased or has He other plans?
Perhaps, He wants to remind man he’s weak!

While people pray fervently to all Gods,
When will Mother Nature become appeased?
Man cannot stop disasters from havoc;
The Almighty’s heart must kindle fresh love!

Man cannot live alone, estranged from God;
Man cannot stop Nature in furious states;
Man mustn’t forget his insignificance;
Man must abide by God’s tenets and words.

Right and Wrong

Time and distance,

muddles rigidly held views

pearl radhe

Pearl radhe
It is a beautiful rose pearl embedded
In a gold ring decorating my right finger,
The rose merges with the skin,
Reminding me of its origin,
The pearl origin of its pristine shine
Mixed with its purity weaving its
Own lengthy tale of its root,
Cared by the sea and protected by oyster,
How the diver ambitious and ruthless,
Dives deep, deep catches it
To be shaped and burnished,
To be pawned to the seller,
He in turn parts with another,
The pearl passes many a hand
Finally chances upon my band,
Emanates many a poem,
And many a story of past and the
Present, and a resplendent future,
Soothing me always the one wearing
The precious, a treasure which
I cherish it, a treasure to be prided upon,
Where no trifling and trading be done.

she the eternal guide
no beginning
no ending
she embraces the creation with love
in whose bosom
creation in entirety falls asleep in deep slumber
at rest with her own heart beats

HUMAN RIGHTS

human rights

human rights?
whose rights?

another man’s vision of rightfulness
superimpose on another man’s deliberate ignorance?
or
another man’s neglect of right living
legally justified by illegal means?

one’s right to practice his culture?
or
one’s right to impose his culture?

one’s right to practice a tradition?
or
one’s right to deny another tradition?

one’s right to speak his language?
or
one’s right to destroy that language?

one’s right to fight for justice?
or
one’s right to define justice waywardly?

one’s right to practice a religion?
or
one’s right to claim superiority of his religion?

rights? yes rights
human rights
but
end of the road
whose rights??

that matters most.

old man

an old man
in utter stillness of evening calm
in a dark corner
silenced by age
sits with rosary in hands - fervently prays
that death takes him soothingly
with motherly embrace.
milestone of history
treasured between the fold of wrinkles
awaiting the call
he sits quietly
welcoming his past
the younger energetic days
moments of frolicking plays.
now all gone
except the worn out body
regressing vision
toothless cavity
nostalgic feelings.
an old man - abandoned
in quiet corner
a space in his new HOME
lovingly provided by his loving children
THE HOME FOR THE INFIRM!!!
laughers of yore
hidden somewhere in time
relationship was without a rudder
drifted apart and he shudders
to realise he was deluded to believe the illusion
illusory existence of dependence
his love have forsaken him.
only GOD accompanying the remaining seconds
when the anchor lay rest
let the finale besieged with bliss.
