When the Sky opened its Flood-gates!
The air is cold, and full of water-vapor;
The roads and streets have flood-waters neck-high;
The nights are dark and scary without lights.
Rain-water entered compounds of people;
Many have left to places of safety;
Others are housed in school-buildings for now;
People have lost belongings and houses.
At last, the depression has gone across;
The rain is drizzling still but not pouring;
The flood-waters need days to get absorbed;
Now, water-borne-diseases play havoc.
Villages, fields stay flooded by the scores,
And countless people have lost their poor huts;
With crops rotten and dead heads of cattle,
Their labor hard has gone to waste once more.
Their hearts can’t bear the losses brought by rain;
The banks of rivers, lakes and tanks have breached;
Some kith and kin were washed away by floods;
This strife appears to remind of world’s end!
Bridges and roads are cracked with crater-holes;
Some high-ways seem like water-ways anew;
All eyes can see just water as if lakes;
Snakes, crocodiles infest some areas.
Motor vehicles can’t ply on most roads;
Some wade perilously to safe places;
Some drenched in rain, have no dry clothes to change;
The week has gone without food, shelter, work!
Just water everywhere: unsafe to drink;
And some had spent sleepless nights on roof-tops;
Burglars and robbers have become active;
Chaos fills hearts and gloom covers some states.
The years of drought have changed into now flood;
God has been kind but many lives are lost;
Last year, the Tsunami struck horror fast;
This year, the sky is always over-cast.
Some cities have come to a grinding halt;
Lakhs of people seem shocked, weary and sad;
Such incidents were never seen before;
Their will to live is fading away fast.
But why is Nature so cruel these days?
And why does God allow such tragic things?
Is He displeased or has He other plans?
Perhaps, He wants to remind man he’s weak!
While people pray fervently to all Gods,
When will Mother Nature become appeased?
Man cannot stop disasters from havoc;
The Almighty’s heart must kindle fresh love!
Man cannot live alone, estranged from God;
Man cannot stop Nature in furious states;
Man mustn’t forget his insignificance;
Man must abide by God’s tenets and words.
